A simple altar guarded by sacred charms floating in a dark empty abyss. Inspired by the medieval church. A blindfolded skull bears a symbol from a forgotten and forsaken language long lost. Representing the uncertainty of the unknown, the witch, it has been blinded and sealed in a religious shrine. The eye symbolizes a control of sight by those who hold on to power. By creating a fear of the misunderstood, by controlling what the masses see and believe, the historic church created a blindfold wrapped tightly around its flock.
Hand embroidered on charcoal grey linen fabric. The skull is embroidered on tea stained canvas using an applique process. The crucifix is composed of vintage metal findings, pearls and seed beads. The wooden frame is vintage and very worn and scratched. Please examine the images closely for frame condition. Tied around the frame various vintage found charms and crosses.
