Inspired by a series of christian symbolic emblem wood engravings common in the 17th century. The christian heart often found itself being tormented by its cravings, resisting the lure of temptation. However, at this time many were questioning the roles and power of the Catholic church. These emblems were inspired by the battle of the christian faiths, yet its continuous power over the individual during a time in which religious law ruled all. The internal struggle. Hand embroidered on natural toned canvas fabric. Set in a wooden stained and distressed coffin. Sawtooth hanger in back for hanging.
