Inspired by the tale of Saint Walpurga, or rather that of her bones. Hand embroidered on tea stained linen fabric. A hand holds a bone as it is said her relics secrete a healing oil. Citrine beaded wheat represents the absorption of the pagan Mayday and Beltane celebrations into the Catholic faith. The vintage pearl teardrops and eyes represent the faith and belief of her followers, the pearls drip from the eyes rather than the bone. Finally, the flames a reference to Walpurgis night, where bonfires were burned to keep away witches and evil. All set in a purposely distressed vintage silver wooden frame. Frame is distressed, chipped, scratched and worn, please examine the images closely for condition.
Wire in back for haning.
